Optimise Your Twitter Business Page.

Recently I wrote a blog post on the Pinterest updating its service so that their followers could convert their page to a business page. Well while I was reviewing Twitter, I realised that it can be a very powerful business medium between you and your consumer if optimised correctly. Thanks to the snappy and immediate nature of Twitter, it can serve as a fantastic tool for customer service. So basically to encourage your Twitter followers to get interactive, I have provided a few tips with the help of Simply Zesty.com to get people talking.

The first is to keep up to date, this move can be as simple as keeping your profile picture up to date with perhaps new services, offers, the time of year, whatever- just be current. It is also worth naming the image you are going to use as your profile picture, throwing in one or two keywords that will increase its chances of turning up in a search engine, from a SEO point of view.

Optimise your Twitter bio to highlight the way you want to look to new potential customers. Highlight your credentials, but inject some personality into it too because at the end of the day Twitter isn’t the most sophisticated of the Social Media world.

Take advantage of your background and your cover photo. For the best results, make sure that the cover photo and the profile photo complement each other well and that they don’t clash, making a very confusing picture. This also ties in with making your Twitter content varied and interesting. Keep your profile look entertaining with multimedia spread throughout, use links to interesting stories and don’t be afraid to steer completely off the bandwagon in terms of newsfeed.

Use Twitter as a search engine. Twitter can be extremely useful when it comes to finding out what people are saying about you or about a specific topic. Twitter’s website allows you to save searches for future use, even advanced searches, making it a valuable tool. Also worth keeping in mind is the value of sites like HootSuite and TweetAdder that Busy Lizzie use on a regular basis. These two sites allow you to create numerous feeds so that you can keep track or numerous search terms in one space.

Connecting with your customers is very important. Like I have previously mentioned Twitter is a powerful customer service tool. Don’t ignore bad criticism, try to hide it or make it go away, it will look like your company has something to hide or that there is truth in the claim. However, do not go hell for leather on any negative comment because the result can be catastrophic and it attracts unwanted attention. Instead approach the user with genuine interest and a sense of humour and it will make a world of difference.  Happy Tweeting!
