The Busy Lizzie team recently undertook research via a questionnaire into usage patterns. The target groupwere students at NUIG and their family members, mainly their parents, so the survey covers two generations and a variety of groups of people.

We received more than one thousand responses for the survey, from which the result seems to have a clear cut in terms of when people use social network website, and what social networks people tend to use.

Facebook and YouTube are the top two most popular social media in the younger generation, which account for 87 % and 86% respectively of the total responses, whereas in the older generation, they account for 31.02% and 24% respectively as the most popular ones.

It’s remarkable that 48.4% of the people in the older group don’t use any social media networks. 78% of the people in the older group who use social media networks, and 70% of the people  in the younger group, tend to use social media networks from 18:00 to 22:00.
